Oteil Burbridge and his incredible group of Friends criss-crossed the East Coast, back to Maryland for their final show at the Baltimore Sound Stage. The band was joined by Maryland-native, Ron Holloway on the saxophone for a couple songs in the first set and the encore.
Ron Holloway is a frequent Warren Haynes collaborator and is one of the most potent brass players in the jam band scene.
The first tune Ron joined on was a sprawling exploration of the Grateful Dead’s “Eyes of the World.” Holloway shines on the Dead cover as does Alfreda Gerald who contributes a soprano vocal solo. Holloway appeared at the end of the set for a cover of The Band’s “The Weight” and then once more during the encore for Eric Krasno’s “Unconditional Love.”
With Oteil having to cancel a NYC date in order to join Dead and Company tonight for the Band Together benefit concert, there are rumors that Oteil and Friends will ride again in 2018. Let’s hope so!
