Phish completed their 2017 New Years Eve with a bang last night (or rather early this morning) at MSG. Last night’s show marked their 17th show at MSG in 2017.
While Phish shipped a pair of sets in each of the three nights of the run, they boys delivered the elusive third set last night. After two killer sets, Phish returned to a pirate-themed stage complete with a boat, sail, skull and cross-bones – the works!
The evening’s festivities got started with a bang with the first set “Carini” opener. Other first set highlights included “Fluffhead,” “Reba” and “46 Days.”
The second set featured a couple of great jams including “Feugo” and “Gotta Jibboo.” Trey and Mike ended the second set on the trampolines with YEMSG—”You Enjoy Myself” at MSG.
Phish kicked off the pirate-themed third set with a debut of Trey’s “Soul Planet” into “Auld Lang Syne” and the New Year’s countdown. 2018 got started with “Free” and a deep dive into the pirate theme with a killer “A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing,” “Prince Caspian” and “Wading in the Velvet Sea.” The third set came to a close with “First Tube” and then Phish was able to muster the strength for one more encore tune, “Loving Cup” before calling it a night. All-in-all, the P-fish delivered nearly four hors of music to close out 2017.
