Watch Trey Anastasio Return to the Beacon Theatre – 6/22/2021 Video

One of the musical saving graces of the pandemic was Trey Anastasio’s residencies at the Beacon Theatre last fall. After a three night run at SPAC, Trey ventured down to NYC for a triumphant return to the Beacon for a pair of shows. This time with a full house.

As he did at SPAC, Trey treated NYC to a healthy mix of originals and Phish tunes including some new arrangements with the Rescue Squad Strings and Jeff Tanski on the keys.

Watch Trey Anastasio’s Tranquil “What’s the Use” at the Beacon Theater

Trey Anastasio returned for this third gig in the Beacon Jams series last week. Today, Trey’s YouTube channel released some footage from the show for those who missed it or for those who simply were awed and wanted to see it again.

Halfway through the show, Trey and the Rescue Squad Strings performed a gorgeous, tranquil version of the etherial “What’s the Use.” The arrangement with the strings is nearly perfect and give the tune a cinematic quality.

Phish took the stage for the final time last night at MSG. With the previous night’s show firmly planted as the second highest rated Phish show of all time on Phish.net, the boys would have to pull out all the stops to satiate the Phans at MSG.

The first two rockin’ sets included all the favorites that Phish had yet to play in the previous three nights such as “Fluffhead,” “Maze,” “Wolfman’s Brother,” and “Possum.” Towards the end of the first set, Phish picked up the story from the night before and welcomed flautist Richard Glasgow to join in the fun.

For the third set, Phish revealed their NYE gag—clones of themselves singing and dancing to “Send in the Clowns” (Send in the Clones.) While the clones were dancing, the band was elevated on stages that moved independently of each other. Despite the gag being over, Trey’s platform seemed to have malfunctioned. For the remainder of the third set, Trey was stuck 30+ feet above the stage, but played and jammed with the band as if he was standing next to the them.

While Trey was stuck suspended above the stage and his band members, they jammed through “Sand,” “Drift While You’re Sleeping,” and “You Enjoy Myself.” Phish has performed YEM 615 times during their careers, but never with Trey suspended 30 feet above the stage and away from Fish, Gordon and Page.

MSG got the “Tweezer Reprise” they were promised from the monster “Tweezer” the evening before. After “Tweezer Reprise,” two stagehands used Fishman’s elevated platform to rescue Trey from his platform. During the rescue, Trey improved a song titled “Rescue Squad.” It’s one of those moments you have to see to believe.

Listen to Phish’s Monstah Set at Fenway – 7/6/2019 AUD

Phish finished their two-night stand at Fenway this past Saturday. After a gorgeous night one, the early forecasted severe thunderstorms threatened to delay, or worse cancel the second night.

After the thunderstorms came and a sizable delay, Phish Tweeted that they would in fact play. With a strict curfew at Fenway of 10:30 PM, the 8:30 PM start surely meant a shortened show.

As the Phish from Vermont played the closest thing to a hometown show of the their summer tour, it was evident that they weren’t going to let the rain ruin the evening. From the opening “Carini,” Boston knew that they were in for a treat.

In the first hour and a half, Phish packed in the hits including “Possum,” “Wolfman’s Brother,” “Reba,” “Down With Disease” and “Simple.” What would constitute as a killer first set of the tour continued and merged into one mega set.

As the 10:30 PM curfew loomed, Phish busted through the imaginary barrier with “What’s the Use?” They then jammed hard of phan favorites “2001” and “Split Open and Melt” before a “Suzy Greenberg” that nearly tore down the park.

For the encore Phish completed the evening with an explosive “Wilson” with “Face Plant Into Rock” soundbite at the end.

What started out as near disaster, ended as one of the most unique Phish shows I have ever been to. Their one-set show stretched into nearly two and half hours! What. A. Show.

Phish capped off a solid three night run at Camden with a doozy on Sunday night. Never. Miss. A. Sunday. Show.

After a great “The Curtain With” opener, the P-fish were off and running. Set one featured a great “Reba” jam, a funky “Camel Walk,” and the phan favorite “David Bowie” set closer.

Set two included a “Tweezer,” the elusive “Makisupa Policeman,” a rocking “Suzy Greenberg” closer and a bonus three song encore.
