Jam Cruise is like your favorite festival, but on a cruise. The 5 day festival left Florida and hit Caribbean destinations like Ochos Rios, Jamaica all while our favorite bands treat us to awesome sets on the pool deck and below in more intimate settings. With a ton of musicians on a cruise, there are plenty of unique and one-off collaborations that occur. Grateful at Sea was one of these.
Instead of docking at the Grand Cayman Island, Jam Cruise had a day at sea due to bad weather. It turns out that Steve Kimock as able to put together a band pretty easily on short notice to pull off one hell of an impromptu Grateful Dead tribute band.
Grateful at Sea featured Steve Kimock, Reed Mathis, Jay Lane, The Motet’s Joey Porter and vocalist Lesley Grant running through a full set of Grateful Dead classics. Throughout the set, sit-ins where a plenty. The roster of guests included moe. drummer Vinnie Amico, the Shook Twins, George Porter Jr., Robert Walter and Karl Denson.
As always, these collaborations that celebrate the Dead turn out unexpected takes on the Dead songs we all know by heart. With Steve Kimock at the helm, you know you are in good hands.
