As we’ve seen this year, some of the best music during Jazz Fest wasn’t actually on the festival grounds, but at the clubs during the Days Between and late night performances. Southern rockers, North Mississippi Allstars filled a coveted late night spot at Tipitina’s during the second Jazz Fest weekend.
As part of their regular repertoire, Luther Dickinson and the boys cover some Hendrix. Check out their gritty performance of Jimi’s “Hear My Train A Comin'” from their performance at Tipitina’s.
“Hear My Train A Comin'” is a favorite tune among Hendrix die-hards, but might not be known to the casual listener. The tune was recorded many times in studio and in concert through-out Hendrix’s career, but it was never released. Hendrix was a bit of a perfectionist and he never got the song to a place where he felt comfortable releasing it. The most famous version is from the documentary Experience where Hendrix plucks out “Hear My Train A Comin'” on a 12-string acoustic guitar.
