First Listen: Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live In Baltimore ’70 – 6/13/2021 AUD

Jimi Hendrix’s YouTube channel has released another recording from the archive. 51 years ago today, Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell & Billy Cox rolled into Baltimore Civic Center, just four months before Jimi would pass away.

The recording, while a rough audience recording, gives a glimpse into the straight fire that Jimi was capable of. The show features some newer tunes such as “Machine Gun,” and “Ezy Rider.”

The Jimi Hendrix YouTube channel had a rare and welcomed surprise today—a near complete bootleg from this day back in 1970. Just a few months before his tragic death, Jimi was touring with a new line-up that featured Billy Cox on bass and some new tunes in his repertoire.

It’s a crime that tunes like the chilling “Machine Gun” only have a handful of recordings. In addition to his late-career material, Jimi also jams on classics like “Red House” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return.)”

Listen to North Mississippi Allstars Jam-Packed Wanee Set – 4/20/2018 Full Show AUD

Wanee may have been a few weeks ago, but the recordings continue to pour in. The latest, courtesy of Z-Man, is the guest-galore North Mississippi Allstars set.

While sit-ins are the norm at Wanee, NMA’s set was a special treat. Luther and the crew welcomed six guests over the course of their set to sit in on a variety of originals and covers. With a sit-in on “All Night Long > Turn On Your Lovelight,” JoJo Herman of Widespread Panic on keyboards and Jack Ryan of Marcus King Band on drums were the first to guests of the set.

Other highlights include Grahame Lesh and Jason Crosby on a couple of familiar tunes including “Deep Elem Blues” and “Goin’ Down The Road Feelin’ Bad,” Marcus King lending his talents to “Crossroads” and finally the “We Bid You Goodnight” encore with tons of Tom Petty references.

Watch Chris Robinson Join North Mississippi Allstars for “Shake Em Down” and “Prayer for Peace”

The North Mississippi Allstars finished their second of a two-night stint at the Terrapin Crossroads. The first night, NMA jammed with Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band. On Thursday night, it was North Mississippi Allstar’s turn to invite a special guest—Chris Robinson.

The Black Crowes founding member and Chris Robinson Band frontman came out for a couple of songs with NMA including “Prayer for Peace” and “Shake Em Down.” During “Shake Em Down,” Robinson and Dickinson lead the charge into the familiar Elmore James cover and namesake for the Black Crowes’ debut album, “Shake Your Money Maker.” During the tune, Dickinson and Robinson spar in a guitar duel where Chris proves he can do more than sing.

In addition to the Chris Robinson sit-in, NMA played a couple of popular covers including “Deep Elem Blues” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Hear My Train A Comin’.”

Listen to North Mississippi Allstars Jam on Hendrix and Grateful Dead in Nashville – 9/9/2017 Full Show AUD

The North Mississippi Allstars are marching across the US on a massive fall tour schedule that includes gigs from Colorado to Dallas to NYC. They will cross paths with JJ Grey and Mofro, Galactic and the Magpie Salute. One of the most anticipated shows of the fall is NMA’s gig at the Beacon Theater during the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s run. Last night, North Mississippi Allstars brought their gritty brand of swamp blues to Nashville, TN to the outdoor venue Musician’s Corner at Centennial Park.

NMA is out on the road in support of an album they released in the spring titled Prayer for Peace. NMA’s line-up this tour includes Luther Dickinson on guitar and vocals, Cody Dickinson on drums, keyboards, guitar, and vocals, Dominic Davis on bass and Rob Walbourne on drums.

The Allstars plaid tunes from their new albums and plenty of other originals during the show. And of course they busted out a few familiar covers. Among the covers were the Grateful Dead’s “Deep Elem Blues” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Hear My Train A Comin’.” Also, NMA put a few notable teases in the blues standard “Rollin’ And Tumblin'” including “Sunshine of Your Love” and “Spoonful.”
