Joe Russo’s Almost Dead headed west this week for a short, but kick-ass three nights in LA and Oakland. After a pair of shows at the Teragram Ballroom in LA, JRAD headed up the coast for one more show at the Fox Theater in Oakland.

After a monster show, JRAD came out for not just one, but two encores! Joe Russo and the Almost Dead proved they still had some mileage in the tank with a killer “Loser > New Minglewood Blues.” Fingers crossed that these shows were recorded!

JRAD powered on from an amazing performance last night at the Brooklyn Bowl for their fifth show of a six-show run. Joe Russo and the gang had another card up their sleeve to bring the fire again-John Mayer.

Mayer is making these Brooklyn Bowl sit-ins with JRAD a habit. Last year, Mayer sat in during JRAD’s fall run in Brooklyn as well.

The Dead and Company guitarist is in between his solo gigs and the November Dead and Co tour. With just a few weeks before the Dead and Co MSG dates, Johnny Lightning is getting refocused on playing the Dead and what better way to do it than with JRAD?

Mayer’s sit-in started at the end of the first set with one of his signature “Althea” jams and continued into the beginning of the second set with a massive “Jam > Here Comes Sunshine” and a dirty “New Minglewood Blues.” Mayer makes one of the most exciting bands in the land somehow a little more exciting to watch.

After retreating backstage, Mayer came out for the encore which started with the extraordinary Marco Benevento soloing and segued into “Such a Night > Franklin’s Tower.”

Listen to Dead and Company’s Killer Austin Show – 12/2/2017 Full Show AUD

Dead and Company finished their Texas-two-step last night in Austin at the Frank Erwin Center. Their show in Dallas was hard to top, but Austin got a nearly flawless show last night.

Some of the highlights included a “Ramble on Rose” with swagger, another monster “Sugaree” to finish out the first set, and an incredible second set. From the opening notes of “China Cat Sunflower” to the closing “Morning Dew,” the second set was pound for pound one of the best sets of the fall tour. Give a listen to John’s layering with Bobby in the last solo during “Morning Dew”—these guys have come so far since the fall of 2015!

Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends’ Star-Studded Outsiders Ball – 11/22/2017 Full Show AUD

All-star MLB pitcher and Deadhead Jake Peavy, teamed up with Phil Lesh, the Terrapin Family Band and a slew of guests for the inaugural Outsiders Ball in Jake’s hometown of Mobile, Alabama. In addition to winning World Series, Jake has also been busy playing guitar, specifically in benefit concerts. Playing with Phil Lesh and raising money for hurricane victims was a dream come true for him.

The guest list for the Outsiders Ball was deep including Eric Krasno, Jennifer Hartswick, Marcus King, George Porter Jr. and Ivan Neville among others. Peavy also sat it on a couple of tunes.

What would a show in Alabama be without an “Alabama Getaway” opener? While Dead and Company was rocking Hartford, CT, Bobby and the boys were supposedly playing “The Other One” at the same time Phil and his crew were playing the it down south.

After playing with just the Terrapin Family Band in the first set, Phil started to welcome all the guests out in the second set, starting with Jake Peavy for “Cold Rain and Snow” and “Bertha.” Luckily for those in attendance, southern guitar slinger and soul singer Marcus King lent his guitar and vocals on a good chunk of the set. The legendary George Porter Jr. and Ivan Neville also sat in for a good chunk of the set.

Watch Highlights from Dead and Company in Philadelphia – 11/16/2017 Full Show AUD

Dead and Company marched down the eastern seaboard to Philadelphia for their third gig of the tour and second city. Last Tuesday’s epic show at MSG proved to not be a fluke as they brought the fire once again to Philly.

The first set was a warm-up to the second set as it was in NYC, but still a great set none the less. Tune’s like “West LA Fadeaway” set the vibe for the first set.

Dead and Co didn’t waste anytime busting out the treats in the second set with a monster Dark Star to kick off the set. Johnny Lightning and company picked up the tempo with “Truckin’ > Smokestack Lightning” spilled into a fierce “Deal.” Like “Sugaree” and “Franklin’s Tower,” “Deal” is one of Dead tunes that Mayer has made his own.

The second set ended with a “Going Down the Road Feeling Bad” sing-along before Dead and Company came out for an emotional “Black Muddy River.” One Redditor described it as more of a benediction than an encore.

Next up for Dead and Company is a pair of shows at the TD Garden in Boston. This tour is just getting started, folks!
