After an almost Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performance last weekend at the Green River Festival with Jeff Chimenti and Jon Shaw subbing in on the keys and bass last weekend, Dave Dreiwitz and Marco Benevento were back with JRAD to kick off their two-night Capitol Theater run.
Nugs.net was streaming the show last night and shared a tune from each of the sets for free. Luckily for us, Sean Roche was there to capture a lot more of the action.
After a “Dark Hollow” opener, JRAD took the Grateful Dead classic “Althea” to task. You’ll notice from the pro-footage how tight and precise this band is. Despite each playing in a variety of other bands and fitting in JRAD shows here and there, these guys know the Dead inside and out and more importantly are perfectly in-sync with each other. Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton each have their turn courting “Althea” with blistering solos and take the decades old tune to new heights.
JRAD went old school to open the second set with “Deep Elem Blues > Hard Wind.”
