For our next stop on the We Will Get By Streaming Tour we go all the way back to the beginning. On this day in 1966, a young, wild and raw Grateful Dead played at the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA.

This recording in particular is phenomonal for the era (or any era for that matter.) If you aren’t familiar with 1960s Dead, the band is very bluesy, keyboards are high in the mix, Pig Pen is large and in charge, the tempos are fast and the jams are short.

While the show has a lot of songs that never escaped the 60s, there are some super early versions of Dead classics. If you are a hardcore Deadhead (which I assume you are if you are reading this), it’s interesting to hear the origins of the songs we love so much like “I Know You Rider,” “Cold Rain and Snow” and “Dancing in the Streets.”
