Dead and Company returned to the stage for their summer tour for the first time since their 2017 tour make-up dates earlier this year in February. The Mayer and Weir lead Dead incarnation is now in it’s fourth year of touring and has 90+ shows under their belt.
Dead and Co’s first stop on the tour was the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA. The 26-date tour will culminate in two headlining sets at LOCKN’ at the end of August.
The initial impressions from the first show of the tour was that Bobby’s tone is a little different (in a good way), Mayer was a little down in the mix while Oteil was loud and clear and Jeff Chimenti continues to be the unsung hero of the band.
The second set was jam-packed with a “Scar > Fire” opener, into a smoking “Althea,” an “Estimated Prophet” and “Eyes of the World,” a Star Wars theme tease out of “Space” before a beautiful “Stella Blue.” Wow.
