Dead and Company’s latest stop on their summer 2017 tour was a familiar place from their 2016 tour—Burgettstown, PA. So many shows into the tour, it’s getting hard for Dead and Co to bust out any more tour debuts, but Bobby and Co debuted their first “Wharf Rat” of the summer.
I’m a sucker for Johnny on the old Pigpen era tunes like “Easy Wind” and “Viola Lee Blues.” His years of obsessing over blues guitar is paying off in spades in Dead and Company. Mayer was rocking the ultimate blues guitarist on his t-shirt last night: Stevie Ray Vaughn. Fun fact: SRV was a huge inspiration for Mayer and Johnny’s self-proclaimed “ultimate guitar hero.” In fact, Mayer was one of the musicians who inducted SRV into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a couple of years ago.
In addition to the “Wharf Rat” debut, the second set featured a monster “The Other One >Space/Drums > The Other One” that shook KeyBank Pavilion.
