Due to some scheduling conflicts, a few of The Last Waltz 40 shows have been canceled, but luckily the last three are still on! Last week, Warren Haynes and friends pulled into L.A. to play at another Orpheum theater (their show on the 9th was at the Orpheum in Chicago.)

This show in L.A. featured the full The Last Waltz 40 cast plus a slew of friends. Special guests that joined Warren and the band included Dr. John, Cyril Neville, Taj Mahal, Dave Malone and the ultimate special guest, original The Band member Garth Hudson.

The Orpheum was treated to a whopping 26 rock and blues classics over two sets—the show clocks in at nearly three hours! In addition to music by The Band, The Last Waltz 40 band covers legendary tunes from Bob Dylan, CSNY, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and more.

Listen to Warren Haynes, Garth Hudson and The Last Waltz 40 Band’s Tour Finale in Oxon Hill, MD – 2/4/2017 Full Show AUD

Warren Haynes’ tribute to The Last Waltz came and went all too fast. The brief, but incredible run of shows reminded us of what an amazing body of music The Band shared with us.

The Last Waltz 40 Tour included a gig with Joan Osborne and most notably, original The Band member Garth Hudson on the keyboards.

For the tour finale in Oxon Hill, Garth Hudson joined the band one more time. While the setlist didn’t change much from night to night, during the nights when Garth sat in there was one remarkable break from the regular show—Garth’s organ intro to “Chest Fever.”

Thanks to Tom Libera, we have excellent footage of Garth, 79 years young, jamming on the organ as if he was 50 years younger.

Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends’ Show at Terrapin Crossroads – 6/12/2016 Soundboard

While Dead and Company was melting faces at Bonnaroo, Phil Lesh and Friends played the decidedly more laid back Terrapin Crossroads venue but still put on a hell of a show.

Phil, proprietor of Terrapin Crossroads has created a training ground for the next emissaries of the Dead’s music. This round of students included Teresa Williams, Larry Campbell, Luther Dickinson, Cody Dickinson, and Jason Crosby. Most notable are the Dickinson brothers who make up the better part of the North Mississippi Allstars.

In an unusual move, Phil played with this group of friends for the first two sets and then brought out a second line-up for the next set. The third set was from one of Phil’s favorite 1988 shows and unfortunately hasn’t surfaced…. yet.
