The famous final concert from The Band turns 40 this year. On the back of the successful tribute show last fall, Warren Haynes has gotten the band back together for The Last Waltz Tour 40 this winter.
In addition to Uncle Warren, The Last Waltz 40 band includes Michael McDonald, Jamey Johnson, John Medeski, Don Was, Terence Higgins, Bob Margolin, Dave Malone, Ivan Neville, and Mark Mullins, and features the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint.
The tour rolled into Boston a couple of nights ago and was joined by a very special guest, Joan Osborne. Joan and Warren have shared the stage many times in the past, most notably in the 2000’s when both were touring with The Dead.
Watch Joan close out the first set with a heartbreaking beautiful of one of my favorite The Band tunes, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” With the horns and Joan on vocals, this rendition of the classic song off of The Band’s self-titled album is pure bliss.
A huge thanks to Jamey Klein for sharing the awesome footage and photo with me!
