Got the summertime blues? Go on a long, strange tour with me through time. Every day in the month of July, we’ll feature a vintage recording from the Dead. Tune in on YouTube and join the chat as we explore the wonders of summer tours past. We will get by, we will survive!
After a mellow opener for our We Will Get By Streaming Tour, we fast forward to the first of two shows from Oxford, ME in 1988. The Dead always brought their A-game when they headed up to Maine and this was a prime example.
After an “Iko Iko” opener, Brent took the lead on “Jack Straw” and showed the deadheads what was in store for the rest of the show. Brent also shined on his signature “Blow Away” later in the set.
Set two is a cosmic, beautiful journey that includes “Terrapin Station” a “Morning Dew” that will give you chills. Jerry, who was much older than other people who had taken 43 trips around the sun, had a ragged but glorious voice towards the late 80s and into the 90s. Hearing him belt out “I guess it doesn’t matter anyway” during “Morning Dew” is a highlight whether its a 72 show or an 88 show.
