Dead and Company hooked us up with another barn-burner last night for their weekly One More Saturday Night YouTube stream. The latest in the series takes us back to the beginning of 2018 in New Orleans.
Dead and Co offered up the NOLA show in honor of Jazzfest which was one of the first festivals to get canceled. Bobby and the gang were slated to be one of the headliners for the festival that was set to take place over the last two weekends.
Originally scheduled for December 2017, Dead and Co had to cancel their show at the Smoothie King Arena in NOLA at the last minute due to John Mayer’s appendicitis. As you’ll see, when Mayer and Co were able to make up the show just a few months later, Johnny Lightning didn’t miss a beat.
Deep into the first set, Dead and Co were joined by the rare guest—NOLA’s very own George Porter Jr. The founding member of the Meters jammed on Howling Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightning” and the Dead’s “Bertha.”
