Gov’t Mule finished their US fall tour this weekend in Chicago. The end of their US tour doesn’t mean that the Mule will be quite for long. They start a European fall tour in less than a week before returning for their New Years run in Atlantic City and at the Beacon.
While former Allman Brother Band member, Derek Trucks was jamming on “Mountain Jam” with Trey Anastasio at the Beacon in NYC, Warren Haynes and the Mule did their own ABB tribute at the Riviera Theater in Chicago.
While the first set had a couple of covers, the second set and encore were cover heavy with four ABB songs including “Come and Go Blues,” “Dreams,” “Kind of Bird,” and “Mountain Jam.” While Gov’t Mule was born from the Allman Brothers Band and will commonly cover them, with the passing of Butch and Gregg this year, Warren’s ABB renditions have taken on new meaning and a new intensity.
