The night after an incredible sit-in from John Mayer at the JRAD show in Brooklyn (I’m still looking for my face after that Franklin’s Tower), Tedeschi Trucks Band wrapped up their October Beacon Theater residency in Manhattan with an historic sit-in as well. At the end of the second set, Upper West Side native and Phish lead guitarist Trey Anastasio made a surprise appearance for a couple of songs.
The first song Trey sat in for was “Delta Lady,” a classic tune penned by Leon Russel and recorded by Joe Cocker. Next, Trey and Derek led the way into one of the most epic jams of the year—a 30+ minute rendition of Allman Brothers Band’s “Mountain Jam.” Everyone has a turn to stretch out on the extended “Mountain Jam,” but Try and Derek’s dueling guitars really bring this classic to life.
