2019 AUD

Gov’t Mule’s east coast tour is in full swing. The Mule pulled docked in Boston before heading down the coast to Asbury Park tonight.

Warren and the boys were supported by Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe in Boston. After KDTU’s set the Mule played for nearly two and half hours.

After about a half dozen tunes, Karl Denson joined Mule on stage for a sax and flute sit in on “Mule” and the gorgeous “Sad and Deep as You.”

Later in the set, members of KDTU joined Mule for a monster cover of the Allman Brother’s Band “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”

Listen to Gov’t Mule Return to Mountain Jam – 6/14/2019 AUD

After a two year hiatus, Gov’t Mule returned to the annual Mountain Jam festival. Warren brought the Mule back to the festival this year which changed locations from Hunter Mountain, NY to the site of the original Woodstock—Bethel Woods, NY.

The renewed Mountain Jam is headlined by two nights of Mule, Willie Nelson, Phil Lesh and Friends and the Avett Brothers. Mule’s set last night featured some good ‘ol classic Mule with a couple of head-nods to the Allman Brothers Band who had headlined Mountain Jam in years past.

Late in the set, former Megadeath guitarist Jeff Young joined the Mule for the closing “The Other One Jam > Soulshine > Tupelo Honey >Soulshine.”

Gov’t Mule’s second Mountain Jam set is scheduled for tonight. Their long awaited set will honor Woodstock’s 50th anniversary and is sure to be a highlight of the festival.

Listen to Gov’t Mule Lay Down an Old School Show in Athens – 4/24/2019 AUD

Gov’t Mule’s spring tour is heating up as they head down south. The Mule just wrapped up a two night stand at the Georgia Theater in Athens, Georgia.

Harkening back to their shows decades ago at the Georgia Theater, Mule laid down a good mix of new and classic Mule. While I’m a fan of the new Mule tunes, it’s hard to beat Warren and company jamming on “Game Face.”

Listen to Duane Betts Join Gov’t Mule for a Wild “Statesboro Blues” in Florida

Gov’t Mule, fresh off their Jamaica Island Exodus getaway is hitting the early festival circuit. While the northern U.S. is still in the throws of winter, sunny Florida has already hosted two major festivals this month. A couple of weekends ago Florida was treated to the annual Sunshine Music Festival and this past weekend, the Florida Jazz and Blues Jam hit Boca Raton.

Among the headliners were Gov’t Mule and The Devon Allman Project featuring Duane Betts. Duane Betts made quite a name for himself in 2017 jamming with Mule, Blackberry Smoke, and Devon Allman among other acts.

At the end of a rip-roaring Mule set, Devon Allman, Duane Betts and Pete Levin joined Mule for a blowout “Statesboro Blues.” After everybody had a turn soloing, Warren thanked the crowd and said they were going to end it how they do in New Orleans with everyone playing at the same time. What ensued was two minutes of jamming bliss.

Listen to Gov’t Mule Cover Allman Brothers at Debut Show in Ireland – 10/22/2017 Full Show AUD

Gov’t Mule has been relentlessly touring since 1994. During those 23 years, they have zigzagged the US dozens of times, gone to South America, Japan, Israel and Europe multiple times. The Mule has even made their way to Australia. It would be noteworthy for a band with 2,000 gigs under their belt to hit a new country. On Sunday, Gov’t Mule played in Ireland for the very first time.

Warren and company treated Dublin to two sets that were low on covers and heavy on original material spanning their 20+ year recording history. If you’ve never been to a Mule show, you need to hear tunes like “Mule,” “Bands of the Deep End,” and “Thorazine Shuffle,” am I right?

The Mule did play one very notable cover for Dublin—the Allman Brothers Band classic “Dreams.”
