It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since we heard the terrible news that Neal Casal had died. Even at the young age of 50, Neal left us with an unbelievable musical legacy. In the year since his passing, numerous projects in his name have been created and most importantly, his latest creation, Circles Around the Sun has continued on.
Neal performed a pair of sets at LOCKN’ the weekend before he passed. The first one with Circles Around the Sun in Garcia’s Forest, was one of the best sets of the festivals in my opinion. Neal, who has penned “Gilbert’s Groove” originally as part of the interlude tunes that the Grateful Dead commissioned for the Fare Thee Well shows, laid down a brilliant solo during the song.
While I rarely share recordings twice on Jam Buzz, this clip is worthy of being shared a dozen times. RIP Neal.
