While all eyes were on Dead and Company’s Playing in the Sand Mexico excursion last weekend, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead was ripping through the midwest. A four-day string of gigs kicked off in Nashville, headed to St. Louis, went north to Chicago and ended in Madison, Wisconsin.
There were plenty of highlights at the Madison show, but the epic 32-minute “Terrapin Station Suite” into an 16-minute “Morning Dew” took the cake. The two songs could have accounted for a set on their own and had little to no filler. Hamilton’s soaring guitar solo at the end puts an exclamation on the stellar Dew.
