Phil returned for a second night at the Cap to celebrate his 78th birthday. Phil’s lineup included the Terrapin Family Band with help from guitar legend John Scofield.
Scofield and Lesh led the Terrapin Family Band through two sets of Grateful Dead classics sprinkled with a couple of covers. After a “Happy Birthday” rendition to kick off the second set and a timely “The Music Never Stopped,” the band launched into Zeppelin’s “No Quarter.”
The late Stephen Hawking who passed away earlier this week, was paid tribute during “Dark Star.” A raucous “Help On the Way > Slipknot! > Casey Jones > Slipknot! > Franklins Tower” followed before returned to “Dark Star” for the second verse and then finally closing out the set with “Morning Dew.”
Happy birthday, Phil! We wish you many, many more!
