John Mayer is marching on with this summer with his In Search of Everything tour. The tour starts with a full-band, breaks into a solo acoustic set, then Mayer assembles the John Mayer Trio for a few songs before bringing out the full band again. This summer tour, we have seen Bob Weir join Mayer for a couple of songs, a killer Hendrix cover and on Sunday night, Hartford was treated to a little Dead.
In the back half of the show, Mayer played one of his jammier tunes, “Queen of California.” As he got into the solo, a familiar tune started to creep out of his guitar. The “Fire on the Mountain” groove was short but sweet. Mayer finishes with “Queen of California” before applauding the guys in the front row to “devoting themselves to the groove.”
Thanks to Kieth Antaya for the recording. The “Vultures” Mayer does with the Trio is also worth a listen.
