John Mayer continued his Search for Everything North American tour in Raleigh, NC earlier this week. The current leg of his tour extends through September and then Johnny Boy hops over to South America for October for a month of gigs.
Aside from having a serious Grateful Dead infatuation (lets be serious, don’t we all?), Mayer loves jamming on Hendrix tunes. From “Power of Soul” to “Bold as Love”, John digs it all. In Raleigh, Mayer treated Coastal Federal Credit Union Ampitheatre at Walnut Creek to the Jimi Hendrix Experience classic “Wait Until Tomorrow.”
John’s guitar licks echo of Jimi, but are entirely his own. You can catch an occasional wail and hint of feedback on a solo that is a signature Hendrix sound, but John owns the cover and does it justice.
Thanks to Golf7 for the recording. In addition to the Hendrix cover, the show includes Tom Petty, Prince and Rolling Stone tunes.
