The grateful Dead were riding a high during the 1990 tour. One of the shining points of the Dead during that era was their keyboardist Brent Mydland.
Without dispute, the best Brent tune in the Dead repertoire was “Blow Away.” In all, Brent and the Dead performed the tune live 23 times. This performance to a packed Rich Stadium outside of Buffalo, NY was sadly the last performance of “Blow Away” as Brent Mydland lost his life 10 days later.
“This Brent Mydland song, debuted in 1988, was a show-stopper whenever it was played through the summer of 1990, and this was the final live version by the Grateful Dead. All 23 versions feature something very special.” – David Lemieux
