Eric Clapton’s second night of his Crossroads Guitar Festival was star-studded. While Clapton collaborated with Frampton for the first time ever on night one, Clapton teamed up with a variety of musicians on night two.
One of the guests to join Clapton during his set was John Mayer. Mayer who made a name for himself as a bubble-gum pop singer songwriter, surprised everyone when he formed the John Mayer Trio and showcased his serious blues guitar chops. Honing his guitar style with Dead and Co over the last three years, Mayer is one of the most formidable guitarists on tour today.
Mayer joined Clapton for a pair of songs at the end of his set including “Layla” and “Cross Road Blues.” While Clapton didn’t seem to be into the Frampton collaboration from the night before, he and Mayer were locked in.
