After a lengthy absence, the Grateful Dead have revived their All the Years Live YouTube series recently. The latest release comes from Spring 1993 at the Shoreline Amphitheater.
The Dead’s visit to the Shoreline Amphitheater on May 21st marked the kick-off to a three night run in Mountain View, CA. At the end of the second set, the Dead played one of their late career favorites “All Along the Watchtower” before finishing the set off with “Morning Dew.”
Here is what Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux noted about the performance, “”Joining the Grateful Dead’s repertoire in June 1987, this Bob Dylan classic was worked up during rehearsals for the July 1987 Dylan & The Dead tour. The Dead, however, played it closer to Jimi Hendrix’s more famous version, which is to say it was guitar-driven and fierce. Usually appearing in the post-Space, pre-ballad slot, Watchtower was one of the hardest rocking songs of the night whenever the Dead played it.”
Thanks to the Grateful Dead for the footage!
