With a lot of the holidays behind us, heading into the homestretch of the year, we can finally set our sights on one of the best musical events of the year—Phish’s NYE run at MSG. The annual tradition has resulted in some of the best Phish shows in their current era. With 13 shows at MSG already under their belt this year, it will be interesting to see what Phish can do to make this upcoming run stand apart.
The Baker’s Dozen produced so many memorable jams, it’s hard to pinpoint a “best” night, but if you were to try, night four would be in the running. Night four’s donut was jam-filled and the show lived up that promise. The show featured not one, but two 30+ minute jams!
The second set’s 30 minute jam was a cover of the Talking Head’s classic “Crosseyed and Painless.” After a what-would be jam-ending peak, the boys dove into an ambient jam that continued to build before laying down some funk and finally returning to the song’s refrain. This “Crosseyed and Painless” was the longest in Phish’s history and was an absolutely magnificent jam worth of listening to time and time again.
Thanks to Lazy Lightning for the newly surfaced footage and Noah Bickart for the terrific audio recording!
