Watch Bob Weir Join George Porter Jr. for a Rockin’ “Not Fade Away” at Sweetwater

Bob Weir may have just finished his North American tour with Dead and Company last week, but it’s tough to keep this 70-year old founding member of the Grateful Dead off the stage. Over the weekend, the word broke out that Bobby was added to the line-up for the second of George Porter Jr.’s shows at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA.

The last time Porter and Weir combined forces was in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center back in February for Dead & Co’s make up show.

As expected, Bob looked and sounded great with Porter!

Check out this great footage of Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” and the Dead’s “They Love Each Other” thanks to nowiknowuryder and C B.

Watch Bob Weir Join Chris Robinson at Sweetwater Music Hall

Chris Robinson has not one, but two new projects in 2018. The highly anticipated As the Crow Files tour is set to start in a couple of months and in January, Robinson rallied another new band, the Green Leaf Rustlers for their inaugural tour. The band is comprised of Robinson and Barry Sless (David Nelson Band, Moonalice), bassist Pete Sears (Jefferson Starship, Moonalice, David Nelson Band), drummer John Molo (Phil Lesh Quintet, Bruce Hornsby & The Range) and guitarist Greg Loiacono (The Mother Hips).

The Green Leaf Rustlers’ describe themselves as “From the sage smoke and mists of Marin come your local purveyors of Cosmic Cali country music, playing the dusty country classics of your dreams.” Well okay then.

During their 6-show run in January, Robinson and the Green Leaf Rustlers hit up the Sweetwater Music Hall. Bob Weir, never one to miss out an opportunity to jam with friends at Sweetwater, popped in towards the end of the first set for a few classic tunes. The sit-in included Merel Haggard’s “Mama Tried,” George Jones’ “The Race Is On,” Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” and The Valentinos’ “It’s All Over Now.”

Watch Bob Weir’s Howling Tom Petty Tribute at Sweetwater Music Hall

After sitting in with Phil Lesh and Friends for a benefit concert at the Backyard at Terrapin Crossroads, Bob made the 15 minute trek down the 101 to Sweetwater Music Hall. There he connected with the group of his own friends for a set that included some Dead tunes, originals from his newest album, covers and a Tom Petty tribute.

Earlier in the day, Weir teamed up with Phil Lesh for a cover of Tom Petty’s “Breakdown.” Later that night, Weir reprised “Breakdown.” His second take featured his signature howling vocals.

Weir also earned bonus points for wearing the STFU (shut the fuck up) shirt featuring himself.
