Watch Bob Weir and Bill Walton Join Electric Waste Band for an Epic “The Wheel” at Sweetwater

With the Sweetwater Music Hall closed due to the coronavirus, they have dug into their archives and shared some pro footage from a very special show last year.

One of the NBA’s greatest players of all time and notorious deadhead, Bill Walton released his memoirs last year. To celebrate the book release, Grateful Dead cover band Electric Waste Band performed an epic 5 hour show at the Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA.

Walton is a frequent concert attendee and standing tall at 6 feet and 11 inches towers above the rest of the crowd. The unmistakable center joined the Electric Waste Band on drums with Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir during the show.

Among the Dead classics that Walton, Weir and the Waste Band jammed on was a tasty 15 minute version of “The Wheel.”

Watch Bob Weir and Golden Gate Wingmen’s “Terrapin Station” at Sweetwater Music Hall

The Golden Gate Wingmen recently wrapped up a string of dates this fall with the final show being at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA. GGW is a supergroup composed of all Grateful Dead family alumni including Jeff Chimenti, John Kadlecik, Jay Lane and Reed Mathis.

Bob Weir, fresh off his tour with Bob Weir and Wolf Bros which included Jay Lane on the drums, doesn’t have anything on his schedule officially until New Years Eve when he joins Bill Kreutzmann, George Porter Jr., Steve Kimock, Jeff Chimenti, Robin Sylvester, and Wally Ingram in Kauai, HI.

Bob Weir made a surprise, not-so surprise appearance at the Golden Gate Wingmen show. Weir has a knack for showing up at Sweetwater Music Hall shows.

Watch Lukas Nelson Lead an Extended “Down By The River” Jam at Sweetwater Music Hall

Lukas Nelson, son of Willie and frontman for the Promise of the Real, teamed up with a group of friends at Sweetwater Music Hall last week for a benefit concert. Billed as A Magical Evening of Musical Friends featuring Lukas Nelson, Paul Beaubrun, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, Steve Adams, Ezra Lipp, and Ben Morrison & Alex Morrison of Brothers Comatose, proceeds from the show will be used to bring music education to the children of Haiti via Music Heals International.

During the set, Lukas Nelson lead a massive jam on the Neil Young classic, “Down By The River.” Nelson is well versed in the Young catalogue as he and The Promise of the Real backed Young for a couple of tours.

Watch Bob Weir Join John Oates for “West LA Fadeaway” at Sweetwater Music Hall

John Oats, half of the best-selling duo of all time Hall & Oates, visited Sweetwater Music Hall last night with his band. Billed as John Oates and very special guests, an appearance by Bob Weir was all but guaranteed.

During the show, John welcomed Weir to the stage for the Grateful Dead classic “West LA Fadeaway.” Bob also stuck around for “Friend of the Devil” and a cover of The Temptations’ “Shakey Ground.”

Watch Dean Ween Group Bust Out “Stella Blue” at Sweetwater Music Hall

Dean Ween, lead guitarist for Ween, is on the road with his own outfit, the Dean Ween Group. Deaner is on his latest tour in support of the album rock2. This latest west coast tour has eight stops including Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA.

When you’re playing at Bob Weir’s join, you pretty much have to bust out some Dead. When in Rome, right? During the show, DWG busted out the Dead ballad “Stella Blue.”
