We are capping the holiday weekend off with a hot show from ’69 in Chicago, IL for tonight’s We Will Get By Streaming Tour.

On July 5th, 1969 the Grateful Dead played at the Electric Theater in Chicago. There have been a few shows I have passed on from the summer of 69 for the streaming tour—this is the first with passable sound. A lot of the early Dead boards and recordings are fraught with sound issues and cuts and this is no exception.

Warts and all, this is a solid recording of early Grateful Dead. Check out the early version of “Casey Jones,” a mammoth “Turn On Your Lovelight” and Pigpen crooning on “Hard to Handle.”
