Legendary singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen passed away yesterday at the age of 82. The Canadian born singer leaves behind nearly 5 decades of music that has and will continue influence musicians and artists for decades to come.
One of my favorite tunes of Leonards is “Hallelujah.” While Jeff Buckley re-popularized the song in the 90s, countless other artists have added it to their repertoire including Uncle Warren. While Jeff Buckley’s voice can be likened to a violin, Warren’s is more of a trumpet—soulful with a punch.
Listen to Gov’t Mule bust out the Cohen classic for the encore at their first show in Tel Aviv. Israel was a very special place to Leonard and it’s a beautiful hat tip by Warren to cover Cohen while in Israel.
Rest in peace, Leonard.
