Procol Harum’s time-honored tune “A Whiter Shade of Pale” entered the UK charts for the first time on this day back in 1967. The song has been covered by many, but none is better than the Gov’t Mule version in my opinion.

Warren’s vocals and soaring guitar solo combined with Danny Louis’ work on the keys make for a magical tribute to the classic tune.

The origin of this video is unknown, but best guess places this performance at the Beacon Theater on New Years Eve, 2006. The setlist and bassist (Andy Hess) matchup to the 2006 NYE show. I should be able to confirm that this was in fact the 2006 NYE performance since I was there, but it was NYE…

Fun fact:’A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ became the most played song in the last 75 years in public places in the UK (as of 2009).
