Gov’t Mule recently traveled across the world to Australia for a week of gigs including a set at the Byron Bay Bluesfest. The 30th annual bluesfest boasted a wide range of headlining acts including Robert Plant, Lionel Richie, Lauren Hill, and many more eclectic acts.
As we know, when Uncle Warren is at a festival, there is bound to be some cross-pollination between bands. Frequent collaborators, Lukas Nelson and Ivan Neville lent a hand on Neil Young’s “Rocking in the Free World” towards the end of the set. After the lyric, “We got a kinder, gentler, Machine gun hand,” Warren, Lukas, Ivan and the rest of the Mule done head first into Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” before coming back to finish “Rocking in the Free World.”
The next round of guest to come out included Jackson Browne and Jeff Young who sat in with Mule on the Allman Brothers classic “Melissa.”
