The second annual Skulls and Roses Festival took over the Ventura County Fairgrounds last weekend. The Grateful Dead themed fest included some of the best up and coming Dead tributes in the scene today including headliners Golden Gate Wingmen.

Pedal steel guitar wizard, Roosevelt Collier’s set included a sit in from Dan “LEBO” Lebowitz, guitarist for ALO. Roosevelt and LEBO launched into the funkiest version (and perhaps the only funky version) of “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” you will ever here. The typically deliciously dire versions that was a staple of the Dead’s early shows was interpreted by the two guitarists as a breakneck tempo funk jam. And it totally works.
