We are just days away from the highly anticipated “Long Strange Trip” Grateful Dead documentary. The epic four hour documentary from director Amir Bar-Lev and producer Martin Scorsese (among others) is told to be a treat for new and veteran Deadheads alike.
Choosing a soundtrack for the film I’m sure was no easy feat. How can one possibly select a handful of songs to tell the story of the Grateful Dead when there are literally thousands of live tracks to choose from? The soundtrack is no available to download and stream on Spotify, among other places. The Dead have also shared a few of the tracks through their Soundcloud page including an incredible “Dark Star” from Valentine’s Day in 1970 (2/14/1970.)
Jerry can be heard saying to the crowd at the Fillmore East that “there’s nothing weirder than coming to New York” before the opening riff of “Dark Star.” Jerry and the boys come through and deliver a wonderfully weird and lush “Dark Star.”
“Long Strange Trip” can be seen in select theaters starting today and will be available to stream on Amazon Video on June 2.
