With Gregg Allman out of the concert circuit for the next couple of months due to illness, Butch Trucks, Oteil Burbridge, Jaimoe and Marc Quinones were joined by members of the Gregg Allman Band and String Cheese Incident for the superjam Allman Brothers Band Family Incident. The impromptu set was put together in the wake of Gregg’s cancellation and was one of the highlights of the Peach Festival.
While the Gregg’s unmistakable vocals were absent, his spirit definitely shone through. From SCI’s “Outside Inside” to “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More” is pure fire. If it sounds like this group has played together before, it’s because they have. Way back in 2004, Allman Brothers Band and String Cheese Incident rocked Red Rocks.
SCI guitarist and songwriter, Bill Nershi rallied the crowd to make as much noise as they could and send good vibes to Gregg. He referred to this set as a “big get-well card.”
