The Grateful Dead are back with another installment of their All the Years Live YouTube series. The latest footage is from one of their most historic New Years Eve shows—12/31/1978.
The Dead played at the Winterland on NYE in ’78 and the show later was released as The Closing of Winterland. The Dead’s latest release showcases a fine “Ramble on Rose” from the show. Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux shared the following note about the performance, “Since its debut on 10/19/71 in Minneapolis, the very same night Keith Godchaux played his first show as a member of the Grateful Dead, Ramble On Rose was a consistently played Garcia-Hunter song right up to the Summer of 1995. Never recorded in the studio, the definitive version is the Europe ’72 album, along with several other live-only recordings that were never given a studio treatment, including Tennessee Jed, He’s Gone, Jack Straw, and Brown-Eyed Women.”
Thanks to the Grateful Dead for the stream!
