“Mountain Song” was originally a four-part suite that was featured in the 1971 PERRO session tapes. PERRO (Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra) was one hell of a super group in the 60s and 70s composed of Jerry Garcia, Grace Slick, Paul Kantner, David Crosby, and more. The group got together a hand full of times to jam around loose compositions. The sprawling 23-minute “Mountain Song” suite was one the group greatest creations.
Rarely covered, the Terrapin Family Band with Phil Lesh tackled an abbreviated version of the tune at the Terrapine Crossroads Baron Wednesday night. The Terrapin Family Band lineup included Graham Lesh Alex Koford and Ross James who spins a beautiful guitar solo towards the end of the tune.
The gig was in the Terrapin Crossroads bar which has a classic tiny-bar vibe and a really intimate space to see a show. Thanks to MarkoVision Films for dancing around the crowd to get the footage.
