Watch the Grateful Dead’s “Sugar Magnolia > Scarlet Begonias” from Orchard Park Summer 1990

The Grateful Dead are back with another episode of All The Years Live YouTube series. The latest footage comes from Orchard Park, during summer tour 1990.

On July 16, 1990 the Dead opened the second set at Orchard Park with “Sugar Magnolia > Scarlet Begonias.” Here is what Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux has to say about the performance, “A rare second set opening Sugar Magnolia was followed by what felt like its natural partner whenever it was played outside of its usual set-closing position, Scarlet Begonias. From just 10 days before Brent’s passing, this Buffalo show was another strong stop on the summer tour of 1990.”

Watch the Grateful Dead’s “Truckin'” from Orchard Park 1993

The Grateful Dead are back with another installment of All the Years Live YouTube series. The latest footage comes from Buffalo in the summer of ’93.

Here is what Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux has to say about this performances of “Truckin’,” “Although it’s not quite the thrill of hearing the fellows in Spinal Tap give a shout out to Cleveland, seeing the Grateful Dead play Truckin’ up in Buffalo was always very fun, and very rare, happening only four times (twice in 1973, and in 1990 and 1993). This is from the last Grateful Dead show I saw.”

Watch the Grateful Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step” at Orchard Park in 1990

While Shakedown Stream may not be as reliable as in the months past, Dead fans still have plenty of music to feast their eyes and ears on including the We Will Get By Streaming Tour on YouTube and the Grateful Dead’s All the Years Live YouTube series.

This past week, the Dead released the latest installment in the All The Years Live YouTube series. This week’s episode brings us a terrific “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleloo” from Orchard Park in July of 1990. Here is what Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux has to say about the performance, “Mississippi Half-Step debuted at the first Grateful Dead show after Pigpen’s last final show with the band, when the Dead played 7/16/72 in Hartford, CT, 18 years to the day before this performance in Buffalo. It was a common part of the setlist throughout the next 23 years, with the exception of 1983-1984, played a total of 234 times.”

Watch the Grateful Dead Truck Up to Buffalo – 7/4/1989 Video

The Grateful Dead have joined in on the fun and started a weekly stream on YouTube. The series, titled Shakedown Stream will share both your favorite concerts and never seen before footage of shows.

Last night, the series debuted with Truckin’ Up to Buffalo—the Dead’s much celebrated July 4th show from their 1989 tour. Sandwiched in-between shows in Foxboro and Philly, the Buffalo show was definitely one to remember—worthy of DVD, 2-CD and 5-LP box set releases.

Along side the livestream of the re-airing of the show, was a fundraiser for COVID-19 related charities. The stream raised over 20k in a single night—not too bad for the rebroadcast of a 30 year old show!
