We hit a major milestone in the return on live music yesterday. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, which had been done remotely from Fallon’s home moved to the studio yesterday.

The Tonight’s Show’s musical guest last night was Trey Anastasio who performed with the Tonight Show’s house band, The Roots. Anastasio who arguably had the most productive quarantine of any musician, cranked out a dozen or so songs and released a surprise album entitled Lonely Trip in the last few months. Anastasio debuted one of the albums tracks titled “I Never Needed You Like This Before” with the Roots backing him. It’s unknown how much Trey and the Roots rehearsed, but the dynamic between the two is spot on.

As a breathless Fallon exclaims after the performance, “Oh my goodness, oh how I have missed live music.” Us too, Jimmy! Us too.

Thanks to Jimmy Fallon and the Tonight Show for the footage and the collaboration!
