When rock legends assemble at one-off gigs such as the Rock Hall Induction Ceremony, the collaborations can feel contrived and usually amount to less than the sum of their parts. The 2004 Rock Hall Induction Ceremony was not one of those moments.
During the ceremony, Prince took the lead on a cover of the Beatles’ “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” with help from Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison. In my opinion, this is one of the single greatest rock moments in history. If you think this is hyperbole, watch for yourself. Prince absolutely owns the guitar solo.
While I have shared the footage before, the original director Joel Gallen has released a directors cut of the song complete with never before scene camera angles and a remastered edit.
Thanks to Joel and the Rock Halll of Fame for the footage!
