Phil Lesh is back on the East Coast for a pair of shows at the Capitol Theatre, marking his first shows at the historic venue since his 77th birthday bash. Phil has a pretty formidable group of friends with him for this weekend run. Last night’s show included Karl Denson, Robert Randolph, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Jackie Greene, Jason Crosby, Ross James, Tony Leone and Alex Koford. Wow.
With the added brass firepower on stage, the Grateful Dead tunes Phil and Friends played took on a different personality. “Shakedown Street” is usually a good time, but with Karl Denson, Robert Randolph and the Preservation Hall Band on the stage, the Cap was treated to a one of a kind Shakedown.
Nugs.tv streamed “Shakedown Street” from the first set and shared pro-footage of the “Help on the Way > Slipknot!” from the second set.
Phil and Friends also busted out some The Band covers throughout the night including “Ophelia” and “The Weight” encore.
