Trey Anastasio continued his incredible acoustic tour last night in D.C. at one of the most interesting and unique venues in the country – the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue. Located in Washington D.C.’s Chinatown, the Sixth and I is one of the oldest synagogues in the nations capital.
While Trey isn’t Jewish, his bandmates Jon Fishman and Mike Gordon are. These Jewish roots are evident with allusions to Hebrew and Jewish prayers throughout their catalog. One of the more common Jewish references at Phish shows is the High Holiday prayer “Avinu Malkeinu.” Trey took the opportunity to “lead services” while at Synagogue with a rendition of “Avinu Malkeinu.”
Trey also opened with a nod to the town that was hosting him with “AC/DC Bag.” In addition to plenty of Phish tunes, Trey also shared plenty of stories.
