Gloria Jones, one of the Jerryettes, provided those sweet, sweet vocals to the Jerry Garcia Band from 1984 to their final performance in 1995. Gloria passed away at the too young age of 73 on February 1st this year.
Gloria’s time with the Jerry Garcia Band was just one of the highlights of her career. Jones first hit came when she recorded “Tainted Love” in 1965. After a stint in Motown, Gloria joined Marc Bolan’s band T. Rex—Marc was Gloria’s boyfriend up until his death in 1977.
Melvin Seals, keyboardist for the Jerry Garcia Band during the same era joined JGB for a special tribute to Gloria Jones at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco this past week. Guitarist Stu Allen joined Melvin and JGB later in the set as well.
