Neil Young and Pearl Jam’s paths crossed quite a lot in the mid 90s. Not only did they share the stage on more than one occasion, but they also recorded an album together, Mirrorball in 1995.

Pro-shot: Watch Neil Young and Promise of the Real’s Colossal “Cortez the Killer” at Farm Aid – 9/16/2017 Full Set Video

Neil Young made his return to the stage for the first time this year for his annual benefit concert, Farm Aid. The iconic rocker will turn 72 years young this November and from the footage Farm Aid shared of his performance, still has the guitar chops and pipes to hit the road.

Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers.

Neil did an eight-song set at Farm Aid and tucked in his epic masterpiece, “Cortez the Killer” in the second spot of the set. Joining Neil was Promise of the Real with Lukas Nelson, son of Willie Nelson. Lukas was recently jamming with his dad out on tour.

Setlist
Fuckin’ Up
Cortez the Killer
Cinnamon Girl
Human Highway
Heart of Gold
Comes a Time
Like a Hurricane
Rockin’ in the Free World

Hopefully 2018 will bring a tour. Until then, we have this great footage of Young killing it at Farm Aid.

Front Row: Watch Gov’t Mule Cover Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Doors in New Orleans

Gov’t Mule’s string of southern dates culminated in a pair of New Orleans shows at the Saenger last week. When Mule visits the hotbed of live music known as New Orleans, you know you are in for a treat—especially during Jazz Fest.

Throughout the show, Warren welcomed plenty of guests to the stage to jam on different covers including Levee Horns, Steve Ferrone, Smokey Greenwell, Eric Krasno, Neil Evans, Ron Blair and Alvin Youngblood Hart. Their were plenty of fireworks even when there were no guests on stage. In the final songs of the second set and the encore, Mule managed to pump out smokin’ covers of Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter,” Neil Young’s “Rocking in the Free World,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” and The Door’s “When the Music’s Over.” The encore run of “Rockin’ in the Free World > Machine Gun > When the Music’s Over > Machine Gun > Rockin’ in the Free World” was especially mind blowing.

How Many More Years (with Higher Ground tease & Dazed & Confused lyrics) > Blind Man In The Dark

Rockin’ in the Free World > Machine Gun > When the Music’s Over > Machine Gun > Rockin’ in the Free World

Thanks to Wicked Flea for the awesome front row footage from the epic performance!
