While musicians have found a saving grace in live streams during the COVID pandemic, music venues have had it twice as rough. Peter Shapiro and other music venue owners around the country are currently lobbying congress to pass the Save our Stages Bill to provide relief to the thousands of independent music venues that are in danger of shutting down.
The latest venue to close it’s stages is own of Jam Buzz’s favorite, The Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton, FL. Founder Albert Poliak shared the following update regarding the venue’s future:
Dear Funky Biscuit Patrons
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce that as of September 1st, we will be closing our doors until further notice. Monday August 31st, will be our last waltz for the foreseeable future.
We are very proud of not only what we have accomplished over the last 9 years, but also what we have done safely and responsibly over the last 5 months in the face of a global pandemic.
We fought the good fight and now it’s time for us to rest. This is not the end of our story…just a new season!
We wish you all love & peace and look forward to seeing you again soon at The Funky Biscuit!

For tonight’s jam, I dug into the Biscuit’s thousands of recordings available on YouTube and found this gem from Valentine’s Day, 2018. Brandon “Taz” Niederauer at the tender age of 14 made his debut at the Funky Biscuit. YouTuber datflys shared a beautiful multi-cam shot of the whole concert that features tons of epic covers including Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child,” Grateful Dead’s “I Know You Rider” and Allman Brothers Band’s “Whipping Post.”
