Warren started out last night, throwing down a short put rocking set to open for ZZ Top in Fredericksburg, VA. The Mule welcomed long-time friend and collaborator, Ron Holloway for “Goin’ Out West” at the end of the set. The booming cover features Danny Louis on the trombone, Warren ripping out a fantastic guitar solo and Holloway blowing everyone away on the sax. Warren busts out the megaphone and leaves the stage as Louis and Holloway wail away on the horns. Wow.
After the show, Ron Holloway met up with his band, aptly named the Ron Holloway Band for the afterparty show. You’ll never guess who showed up. Warren!
Warren sat in on a number of tunes, including “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” and “Spanish Moon.” Check out the fantastic footage of “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” with Warren, Matt Abts, Jorgen Carlson and Andrew Trongone from The Trongone Band. Warren and Ron have a groovy call and response interplay half-way through the song after a fierce guitar solo from Trongone.
The highlight of the evening for me was Warren sitting in with the Ron Holloway Band on a cover of Little Feat’s classic “Spanish Moon.” The funky bass line under Ron Holloway’s saxophone flanking Warren reminds me of that Warren Haynes Band sound. This ladies and gentlemen, is not to be missed. Thanks to YouTuber Brent Light for grabbing the below footage.
