Watch Warren Haynes and Dave Matthews Almost Acoustic “Cortez the Killer” in Mexico

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds returned to Mexico last weekend. The duo and hordes of fans have been traveling to Riviera Maya for three concerts on the beach for three years now.

Dave and Tim also brought a few friends with them for choice collaborations throughout the weekend. One of the friends in tow, Warren Haynes, is no stranger to covering “Cortez the Killer” with Dave Matthews Band.

Watch Warren Haynes and Dave Matthews Band’s Epic “Cortez The Killer” at MSG

Dave Matthews Band kicked off their late fall tour last week in Columbus and hit up Madison Square Garden for a pair of shows on Thursday and Friday. The mini-tour ends with a pair of shows in Charlottesville in just two weeks. DMB ends the year on 12/28 with a year-ending free show in South Beach, FL.

On the first night, Dave brought welcomed Eric Krasno to the stage for “Lie In Our Graves.” On night two, a slew of other guests joined DMB including Warren Haynes.

As Warren strapped his guitar on and got set, the crowd cheered. As Warren’s guitar rang out the opening notes of “Cortez the Killer,” the crowd erupted. Warren and DMB have teamed up on several occasions to play the Neil Young masterpiece and the collaboration never disappoints. Towards the end of the jam, the song busts out of a jazzy interlude with Tim Reynolds and Warren weaving soaring guitar solos.

Watch Gov’t Mule and Magpie Salute’s Towering “Cortez the Killer” in Iowa

While all eyes were on LOCKN’ last weekend, Gov’t Mule and Magpie Salute were heading out west. Last Saturday they were in Des Moines, Iowa at the Brenton Skating Plaza which they visited two summers ago with Blackberry Smoke.

This time around, Mule treated fans to an epic encore including both an Allman Brothers Band tune and a Neil Young tune. For the last two songs of the show, Warren invited Rich Robinson, Marc Ford & Matt Slocum to the stage to help them with “Mountain Jam” and “Cortez the Killer.”

According to YouTuber Sssoul Ssshine who captured the awesome front row footage of the jam, there was also a special guest guitar on stage. The guitar was a 1967 Rickenbacker 365, originally owned by Neil Young, passed to John Patrick O’Connell of Crazy Horse Guitars in Des Moines, then Shannon O’Connell and is currently owned by Craig Cunningham.

Listen to Lukas Nelson and Gov’t Mule’s Killer “Mountain Jam” and “Cortez the Killer” in NY

Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real joined up with Gov’t Mule in Lewiston, NY at Artpark. Just earlier this year in Australia, Mule and Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real shared the bill a couple of nights.

Artpark, the beautiful venue where the bands played, is just miles away from Niagra Falls and was the site of a lot of rain on Tuesday night which cut into Mule’s set. Warren and the boys made the decision to make the most of it and brought Lukas Nelson out to jam with them just after 6 songs.

Lukas sat in for two monster jams including Allman Brothers Band’s “Mountain Jam” and Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer.” Both jams clocked in at over 30 minutes combined.
