Watch Brandi Carlile Cover Zeppelin’s “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” in Philly

Grammy Award winning singer songwriter Brandi Carlile is on a national tour that will go beyond on the US borders next year with stops in Mexico, Australia and beyond. Last year, Brandi’s tour brought her to the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia, PA.

Deep into her set, Brandi treated Philly to a cover of Joan Baez’s “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You.” Carlile and her band’s rendition was more reminiscent of the rocking Led Zeppelin version than Baez’s.

Watch Robert Plant Treat Philly to Led Zeppelin Classics at Mann Center

While Led Zeppelin hasn’t had an official concert since that last reunited in 2007, lead singer Robert Plant has kept the timeless catalogue alone while on the road with his Sensational Space Shifters. Plant is on tour through the rest of September into early October, briefly hooking up with Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Festival this week.

Last night Plant landed in Philly at the Mann Center. Among the originals, Plant sang four original Zeppelin tunes including “What Is and Should Never Be,” “Black Dog,” “The Battle of Evermore,” and “Ramble On.” Other common Zeppelin covers like Joan Baez’s “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” were also on the menu last night.

While Plant turned 71 last month, his voice sounds terrific and he can still pump out the jams.

Watch Warren Haynes and Grace Potter’s Soaring Set at The Peach – 7/28/2019 AUD

While Gov’t Mule didn’t play at The Peach Music Festival this year, Warren Haynes definitely did. In addition to playing lead guitar with Phil Lesh and Friends for two sets, Warren also teamed up with an old friend for an intimate set earlier on Sunday,

Grace Potter and Warren Haynes , who have collaborated a lot over the years, teamed up for an hour and half set on The Peach Stage. Warren played guitar and sang and Grace alternated between the keys and guitar and leant her powerhouse vocals as well.

Grace and Warren did a couple of originals from their respective catalogues (Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Gov’t Mule), the duo jammed on some pretty epic covers. The highlight of the set was Grace crushing the Plant’s vocals on Led Zeppelin’s “Babe I’m Going to Leave You.”

Other covers included Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman,” Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home” and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s “Find the Cost of Freedom” which Warren had covered just days before at the Newport Folk Festival.

Warren and Grace welcomed Captain Ron Holloway on the saxophone to closeout the set with a cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Soulshine.”

Watch Robert Plant’s Sensational Show in Charlotte – 2/11/2018 Full Show Video

Robert Plant, 69-years young, is on the road with the Sensational Shape Shifters for a tour dubbed Carry Fire. The sold-out tour makes stops in NYC on Valentine’s Day, and starts marching west after a stop in Boston later this week.

Those expecting to be treated to tunes like “Stairway to Heaven” might be disappointed, albeit Plant does share some Zeppelin tunes. The iconic lead singer for Led Zeppelin has reinvented himself since his acclaimed collaboration with Alison Krauss/T Bone Burnett, “Raising Sand.” The 2007 album introduced a brand of Americana that echoes the classic sound of Zeppelin, but feels fresh and entirely new for Plant.

The show’s 90 minute set focused on mainly Plant’s original cannon, including classics like “Please Read the Letter.” Robert tucked in a fair amount of covers toward the end of the set including the traditional tune familiar to Zep fans, “Gallows Pole” and Joan Baez’s “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You.” Plant and the Sensational Shape Shifters ended the the set with one of Zeppelin’s more popular tunes, “Misty Mountain Hop.”
