Jimi Hendrix, one of the brightest stars in the rock universe, died at the all to young age of 27 on this day 51 years ago. Ahead of the anniversary of his death, the official Jimi Hendrix has prepared and released a slew of live recordings.
The collection includes 19 career-spanning performances of Jimi Hendrix’s signature classic, “Purple Haze.” The playlist starts with a version in Denver on Valentines Day, 1968 that explodes out of a wall of guitar feedback. The last performance in the playlist is from Copenhagen, just 15 days before his death in 1970.
Thanks to Jimi Hendrix for releasing all the great recordings, warts and all.
